WHO WE ARE

We are a learning and development partner to construction companies.

We’re hired to create curriculums and online training solutions for jobsite personnel (e.g., Project Engineers, Project Managers, Superintendents).

Training usually takes the form of interactive e-learning (developed in Articulate Rise and Storyline) and/or video.

We enjoy collaborating on solutions to come up with attention-getting content for maximum engagement… all with a keen eye on the learning objectives and desired outcomes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We need an experienced instructional designer to join our team of training and video professionals.

This role is fully remote with a flexible schedule; however daytime hours are required to accommodate meetings.

The primary responsibility is to write scripts and storyboards for interactive e-learning development and support overall project management and success.

ABOUT YOU

Key Requirement:

  • SKILLED AT WRITING FOR LEARNING

    • Learning Objectives:
      • Write actionable learning objectives that indicate the expected performance as well as how that performance impacts the company. We always seek to impact performance (not just create awareness or understanding) in support of business goals.
      • Use learning objectives as the foundation for content development.

    • Structure/Organization:
      • Structure content in a logical sequence so the learner never feels lost or wonders why they’re learning something.

    • Attention-Grabbing Content:
      • Capture the learner’s attention at the start and throughout the training with relatable scenarios, interactive elements, and thought-provoking questions.

    • Conversational:
      • Use a conversational writing style vs. a verbose one or a policy-sounding one:
        • Verbose: In the vast landscape of professional encounters, many of us often, but not always, wonder about the effectiveness of certain meetings. There’s an art to understanding this.
        • Policy Sounding: When initiating a meeting, facilitators should ensure that a clear agenda is set and communicated to participants in advance. In the event of uncertainties regarding meeting objectives, refer to the Best Practices Guide for Effective Meeting Management.
        • Conversational: Ever been in a meeting where you thought, “Why am I here?” We’ve all been there. Let’s dive into how to make those meetings more meaningful for everyone.
      • Critiques their own writing to find the best words and phrasing that will connect with the audience, while also being succinct and conversational.

    • Adds Value: Considers that our learners are adults who deserve quality learning that adds value to their already busy lives.

Additional Requirements:

  • EXPERIENCE
    • At least 3 years’ experience as an instructional designer for online learning solutions, preferably designing for development in Articulate Rise and Storyline

  • INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN SKILLS
    • Uncover the true learning need, desired outcomes, and requirements for a successful learning solution.
    • Write actionable learning objectives that are used throughout design (not just sit in a document never to be looked at again).
    • Outline content to support learning objectives and identify best delivery method(s).

  • INTERVIEWING and CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
    • Interview subject matter experts on complex content, asking questions that pull out the key information needed for learners.

  • VISUAL COMMUNICATOR
    • Visualize graphics that will support and enhance the learner’s understanding of the content, not distract from it.
    • You don’t need to be a graphic artist or illustrator, but you do need to be able to envision and suggest visual elements that will work with the content and have an eye for basic graphic design principles when you review developed content (e.g., consistent use of fonts, alignment of screen elements).

  • ATTENTION TO DETAIL
    • When sharing content for review, ensure it is complete based on requirements and easy for the other person to review (e.g., consistent use of styles and formatting).
    • Review Storyline or Rise courses and videos for clarity, accuracy and maximum engagement.

  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS
    • Track daily progress on projects.
    • Stay on top of all work you share with others. Consider the project to always be in your court.

  • SELF-STARTER
    • For content that may be new to you, you take the initiative to research and learn. We have no problem with using ChatGPT for inspiration (never sharing proprietary or confidential information in prompts).

  • VALUES OPEN and FREQUENT COMMUNICATION
    • Is comfortable with daily check-ins on projects.
    • Responds to emails within one day.

  • DEADLINE-DRIVEN
    • Reliably meets established deadlines.
